Learning Styles
Teaching in a shanty town in Brazil and working as a classroom reading assistant in the UK confirmed for me that we each learn differently. I try to cover the visual learners with a plethora of clear diagrams, the contextual learners with background stories where they can see the technology in operation. I’ve made it easier by emboldening words in the text that are referenced in the glossary.
I am now reaching out to auditory learners through library readings and recordings of me reading the stories on a new YouTube channel which is in development. For the kinaesthetic learners who prefer hands-on experiences and physical activities, we talk about aerodynamics during the paper aeroplane-making section of my library visits. I also bring models of the planes mentioned in the stories to schools and refer to them when discussing how an aeroplane flies.
